Hirving Lozano‘s adventure in European football came to an end this month. The Mexican forward, who joined PSV Eindhoven from Pachuca in 2017 for a record fee, has bid farewell to the Dutch club and will continue his career from 1 January in Major League Soccer.

Back in the summer, San Diego FC reached an agreement with PSV for the 29-year-old, who becomes the franchise’s first ever Designated Player. San Diego join MLS as an expansion team in 2025 with Mikey Varas and Lozano as its first major signing.

Chucky Lozano’s promise

In an interview with ESPN, Lozano spoke about his ambitions with San Diego and assured that wherever he has played, he has always given his best.

“I have left my mark at all of the clubs I’ve played for,” the Mexican said. “It was special to play in Europe. We have lived through wonderful and difficult times, everyone knows how much effort you have to put in to be successful. I carry that in my heart”.

Lozano made a total of 124 appearances for PSV across two different stints, scoring 51 goals and playing a part in another 28 for his teammates. He leaves having won the Eredivisie twice - in his first season and his last.

After two seasons in Holland, he left to spend four seasons in Italy with Napoli where he contributed 30 goals in 155 games and was part of the team that lifted the Coppa Italia in 2020 and won the Serie A title in 2023 before rejoining PSV in September of last year.

At international level with Mexico, after making his debut in February 2016, Chucky has appeared 70 times for the Tri and racked up 18 goals. He has missed the last 11 games due to various injury problems.
