The countdown is on for another edition of El Clásico Nacional between Club América and Chivas, set to take place just days before Mexico’s Independence Day celebrations. But heading into one of the most anticipated fixtures of the Liga MX calendar, Las Águilas have had to navigate several key absences due to the recently concluded FIFA international break.

Players reintegrating ahead of crunch Chivas clash

Luis Ángel Malagón, Erick Sánchez, Alejandro Zendejas, Sebastián Cáceres, Brian Rodríguez and Rodrigo Aguirre were all called up to represent their respective national teams, forcing them to miss América’s friendly against D.C. United in the United States.

Gradually, the players have been reintegrating into América’s training camp under head coach André Jardine, as preparations ramp up for the showdown against Chivas. More than just a battle for three points, El Clásico Nacional is a matter of pride and identity - making it one of the most emotionally charged matches in Mexican soccer.

With the squad now back to full strength - Henry Martín notably featured in the friendly against the MLS side - América can finally shift focus to the upcoming matchday in the Apertura 2025 tournament. The stakes are high, not only because of the rivalry but also because the club is aiming for a direct berth in the playoffs.
