Club América confirm summer friendly against Chelsea
The Mexican giants will face the Londoners in the city of Atlanta as part of the Premier League side’s US summer tour.
On 31 July, Club América will return to the United States to face Premier League outfit Chelsea as part of the English team’s US summer tour with the game against the ‘Aguilas’ set to be staged at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium (home to MLS side Atlanta United with tickets for the friendly clash set to go on sale on 13 March.
Santiago Baños, América president stated: “we are very happy and excited to be able to continue playing in the United States against great international teams, this time against Chelsea, a top-level side”. Chelsea’s GM, Chris Jurasek commented, “we are very excited to return to Atlanta this summer as part of our preseason tour; Mercedes-Benz Stadium is a truly remarkable venue and we cannot wait to play there again, in front of our fans in the United States when we face Club América.”
Chelsea has won the UEFA Champions League twice and have bagged six English Premier League titles and the game against the Liga MX side comes as part of a US tour with Mauricio Pochettino’s men to play further (as yet unannounced) games in the United States.
America faced Chelsea on in July, 2022 with the Londoners running out winners with goals from Timo Werner and Mason Mount with America hitting back via an own goal from Reece James as part of a 2-1 scoreline in Las Vegas, Nevada.
