Club América dominate Liga MX Clásicos in Apertura 2023
The Águilas secured a rare hat-trick with wins over Cruz Azul, Chivas Guadalajara and, most recently, Pumas.
Club América’s impressive start to the Liga MX Apertura 2023 sees Andre Jardine’s side leading the table after ten matches. The Águilas edged past Pumas UNAM on Saturday to secure their third win from three Clásico fixtures this season.
The win over Pumas in the Clásico Capitalino came courtesy of a second half strike from Jonathan Rodriguez to give them a narrow 1-0 victory.
This dominant run of Clásico form began on Matchday 7 when América defeated Cruz Azul 3-2 in Clásico Joven. Goals from Julián Quiñones, Brian Rodríguez and Richard Sánchez gave them the win at Estadio Azteca.
The following matchday saw América take on Chivas Guadalajara in the Clásico de Mexico. Jardine’s side were the dominate force on this occasion are secured a 4-0 victory. Diego Valdés scored a brace against Chivas, with two more goals coming from Brian Rodríguez and Alejandro Zendejas.
Saturday’s victory in the Clásico Capitalino completed an impressive hat-trick of Clásico victories for the Águilas, who will hope to improve on last season’s semi-final exit in the Clausura 2023 final phase.
Club América schedule, Apertura 2023
América lead the way in the Mexican top flight with six wins and three draws from their opening three matches. However they are just one point ahead of Tigres UANL, who were crowned Liga MX Clausura champions earlier this year.
Jardine’s side still have seven remaining fixtures before the post-season. They end the regular season campaign with a trip to reigning Mexican champions Tigres.
