Club América is having an impressive run under manager Fernando ‘Tano’ Ortíz in the 2022 Apertura tournament in Liga MX.

The Eagles obtained their sixth consecutive win on Saturday night with a dominant performance against Mazatlán and they are now in first place in the standings with seven wins, one draw and three defeats for 22 points.

América wants to break franchise record

The capital-based team went on the road to win the three points with Diego Valdés, Henry Martín and Sebastián Cáceres scoring for the visiting side. The bad news is that Martín suffered an injury in the game and he has been ruled out of the friendly against Paraguay with the Mexican national team.

Club América is on a hot streak and they have become the team to beat in this campaign since starting dead last in the table and rising all the way to the top. The Eagles are now just two games shy of tying the franchise record of eight consecutive wins.

The last time they achieved this feat was way back in the summer of 1997 when they defeated Pachuca 1-0, Atlante 1-0, Celaya 4-0, Monterrey 2-1, Veracruz 2-1, Necaxa 2-1, Atlas 3-0 and Toluca 2-1. They won eight consecutive games from matchday 7 to 14 but were later eliminated in the playoffs by Morelia and Chivas de Guadalajara won the championship.
