The ‘14th′ did not reach Coapa in 2022, which ended with the disappointment of being eliminated in the semi final against Toluca. América entered the tournament playoffs as firm favourites, but ran into the Red Devils who were solid in the tie and advanced to the final. Now, with the campaign’s failure a few days down the line, the board have already started planning for the next tournament. From the outset, it is estimated that Fernando Ortíz will remain on the bench and that the club would look for two or three reinforcements.

After the elimination against Toluca, the Azulcremas players were called in on Sunday morning to the Coapa training ground. The coaching staff, board of directors and players met at the club to break ranks and start their vacation period, which will end on November 28, according to information from TUDN.

Likewise, the same source revealed that this Tuesday the directors, headed by Héctor González Iñarritu and Santiago Baños, will meet with the ‘Tano’ coaching staff to analyse ups and downs of the team, as well as planning preseason for the next competition that will start in January 2023.

The possible ups and downs of América

Several players do not have their future tied down to América. Some players’ contracts are up, while others could have a change of scenery. In the specific case of those players whose relationship with the club ends, Miguel Layún would be one of the main candidates to seek pastures new. The Mexican player himself declared that he does not know if he will continue with América for the next tournament.

Jürgen Damm is another player whose contract is coming to an end and according to TUDN, the intention is for the player to remain in the team, despite having received a lucrative financial offer from Bravos de Juárez. In the case of Guillermo Ochoa, the talks regarding his renewal have gone on longer than expected and his situation may possibly be on hold until after Qatar 2022.

As for the incoming names, América are believed to be after two or three reinforcements. One of them, in theory, is already tied up: Israel Reyes, from Puebla.
