Guadalajara’s Akron Stadium, Monterrey’s Estadio BBVA and Mexico City’s Estadio Azteca are the three venues for matches during the 2026 World Cup which Mexico will co-host along with Canada and the United States.

The iconic ground in the Santa Ursula district has seen better days and will undergo a dramatic face-lift ahead of the 2026 FIFA tournament which will see tennants Club America and Cruz Azul needing to find new temporary homes for Liga MX games whilst renovation work is carried out.

Speaking to the media on Monday, Club America president Santiago Baños stated: “As far as I understand it is in December or January when we move and the idea is to go to the Estadio Azul but we may have to wait a little longer”.

It’s expected that the Aguilas will be in their temporary home for the 2024 Clausura tournament.

At present the 36,000 capacity stadium Estadio Ciudad de los Deportes to give the Estadio Azul its official name is home to Liga MX Expansion (second division) side Atlante and is located in the Colonia Noche Buena area of the Mexican capital.
