“Completely false”: Galtier and PSG respond to Mbappé’s leaked wages

Paris Saint Germain head coach Cristophe Galtier commented on claims that Kylian Mbappé will earn the biggest contract in sports history.

Earlier this week, Le Parisien reported that Paris Saint Germain player Kylian Mbappé will earn a ridiculous €630 million from his three-year deal signed in May. PSG has since responded, saying the claims were “completely false”.

“In realtion to the sensationalist information published by a media outlet about one of our players, PSG wish to make it clear that this story is completely false and not a single detail is correct,” PSG said in a statement.

The leaked information also reported that Mbappé would earn a guaranteed signing bonus of €180 million, tripled his monthly salary to €6 million, and will receive a continuously increasing loyalty bonus for every year he fulfils his contract.

“For me, [reports of Kylian Mbappé's salary] are away from sporting issues,” said PSG head coach Christophe Galtier. “And as long as it’s non-sporting, then it doesn’t concern me at all.”

PSG play Maccabi Haifa tonight in the Champions League Group H stage. In their statement, PSG also noted that the timing of the leaked wage was “surprising” ahead of the fifth match of the group stage.

“I am focused on the competition, on the management of my group, on the importance of tomorrow’s game in the Champions League,” said Galtier in a press conference on Monday. “Unfortunately, something else came out. At least we won’t be surprised tomorrow morning when we get up.”

“We’ll stay focused on the game, nothing but the game, and on the importance of getting the victory we have to get against Haifa.”
