Sergio Busquets will leave Barcelona at the end of this season. The Catalans’ club captain will bid farewell after 15 years in the first team and will inform his teammates of his decision before training tomorrow, ahead of making an official statement. Barça coach Xavi Hernández has already been made aware by Busquets, who has been contemplating his future for several months.

Xavi and Busquets took advantage of a five-day break to enjoy a mini-vacation in Marbella together, AS has learned. The former Spain teammate had several matters to discuss and opted to travel to the south coast to lay all their cards on the table.

Where will Sergio Busquets play next season?

Accompanied by their wives, they wined and dined in some of Marbella’s finest restaurants, and, of course, Busquets’ future was one of the main topics which came up between courses. The midfielder was offered a new deal by Barcelona but has also received a multi-million dollar proposal from Al Hilal in Saudi Arabia. During the trip, Busquets let Xavi where he would continue his career after the summer, giving the Barça boss time to plan for next season with five matches of this year’s LaLiga campaign still to play, during which time the club are expected to seal the league title.

How many times has Busquets won LaLiga with Barcelona?

As mentioned, Busquets’ decision will be made official on Wednesday, earlier than was previously thought; it had been expected that he would wait until Barcelona had been crowned champions. However, he has ultimately decided that the best thing for everyone concerned is to put an end to the rumours surrounding his future. Busquets’ 15 years as a Barça player will therefore come to an end in June. He is almost certain to win a ninth LaLiga title this season and has also won three Champions League titles and seven Copas del Rey, as well as a World Cup and a European Championship with Spain, in his illustrious career (so far).
