The 2024 Copa América kicks off on Thursday with a fascinating battle from Group A; reigning champions Argentina take on a talented Canada team at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Argentina are hot favourites to start their tournament journey with a win and La Albiceleste boast the likes of Lionel Messi, Angel Di Maria and Enzo Fernandez in their ranks. But those won’t be the only stars on show. Ahead of kickoff the evening’s entertainment will get underway with the Copa América opening ceremony.

Star of the show will be Colombian singer Feid, who was recently announced as the performer for the high-profile event. The 31-year-old is a nine-time Latin Grammy nominee and is often known by his stage name, Ferxxo.

What is the 2024 Copa América song?

Feid, or Ferxxo, is currently travelling the United States and Canada on his Ferxxocalipsis concert tour. He takes the show to Atlanta, Georgia for Thursday’s grand opening and will have the eyes of the world on him for the set.

“Since we began organizing CONMEBOL Copa América 2024, we focused on involving and supporting artists like Feid, who represent the passion and dedication of South Américans,” said CONMEBOL president Alejandro Domínguez.

“Our goal is to make this CONMEBOL Copa América an unforgettable, vibrant tournament that all fans can feel the greatness of our football, and we are sure that with this opening show, we are moving towards that goal.”

But while the performer has now been confirmed, it’s less clear exactly what he will be performing. Despite rumours that ‘Punteria’ by Shakia and Cardi B would be the song of the 2024 Copa América the organising body has not yet released details of the official track. In fact, Shakira’s record label Sony Music have confirmed that ‘Punteria’ is only the official song of Televisa/Univision’s coverage of the tournament.

The content of Feid’s opening ceremony is still unknown but don’t be surprised if we hear the official song of the 2024 Copa América for the very first time live on Thursday. Teams from across the Americas will gather for this summer’s pan-continental tournament in the United States and Feid will fire the starter’s pistol on the race to glory.
