Costa Rica received a sound 7-0 drubbing from Spain in their Group E opening game at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, and they will be raring to prove they can do much better when they come up against Japan on Sunday.

Manager Luis Fernandez Suarez is not expected to change his lineup for their second game despite their defeat. He will probably opt to instead motivate his players to perform better this time around.

The game will be the sixth between the two countries, and Los Ticos will be facing an uphill battle, because on top of their recent loss, Japan has won four of their five non-competitive meetings in the past.

Although Costa Rica’s starting team will likely remain largely unchanged, Suarez might implement a change at right-back, with Carlos Martinez making way for Kendall Waston.

No injuries for Costa Rica

They have a healthy squad coming into their matchup against Japan, with no reported injury concerns.

Joel Campbell and Anthony Contreras are expected to once again be seen at the final third of the field, while Bryan Ruiz and Alvaro Zamora will probably stay on the sidelines.

Jewison Bennette and Keysher Fuller are probable starters in the second game, while Keylor Navas is also anticipated to take his place at the goal.

Costa Rica vs. Japan will be held at Ahmed bin Ali Stadium on Sunday, Nov. 27.
