With the Clausura 2024 set to kick off in little under a month’s time, Liga MX clubs are busy reinforcing their squads with the aims of dethroning recently-crowned champions América in the next tournament. One of the names that has been heard in recent hours is that of Darío Benedetto, who according to Argentinean daily, Diario Olé, could return to the Liga MX as he has lost prominence with Boca Juniors. Various injury problems (knee, Achilles, muscular) kept him from enjoying a regular run in the side - this year he has made a total of 41 appearances across all competitions.

According to the information revealed by Diario Olé, ‘Pipa’ is on the agenda of up to five Mexican clubs: América, Cruz Azul, Xolos, Monterrey and Pumas. There is also the possibility that he could go to MLS, where a few months ago he was rumored to be close to joining Lionel Messi at Inter Miami. At 33 years old, Benedetto is now Boca Juniors’ third-choice striker and obviously he would much rather be further up the pecking order at this stage of his career. He wants to be playing regularly and that’s not going to happen at Boca.

Only Boca

Pipa Benedetto still has one year to run on his contract with the Xeneizes, who would be open to his departure as long as economic conditions are favorable. According to the player’s own words, in South America he would not be willing to play for any club other than Boca Juniors - which is why the Liga MX and MLS could be attractive options to him.
