Could Lionel Messi earn a bigger contract in MLS than David Beckham?

Inter Miami CF confirmed that they are signing the World Cup winner and pulled out all the stops in a lucrative contract.

El fenómeno Beckham en la MLS: ¿Lo superará Messi?

David Beckham changed how the world looked at Major League Soccer when he decided to leave Europe to join the LA Galaxy on a 5-year, $32.5 million contract. The Manchester United legend joined the MLS side in the summer of 2007 and was heavily criticized for playing in a league that was only ten years old at the time.

Beckham’s deal was the most lucrative deal offered to a player in the league’s history and no one expected something similar to happen again. However, now that Lionel Messi will be joining Inter Miami, the team owned by Beckham, this record is set to be smashed.

Messi looking for lucrative deal

The Argentina international had been linked with a move to Inter Miami for months now and it was even reported that talks were held prior to the World Cup. Both sides have been going back and forth about the possibility of Messi leaving Europe to continue his career in Major League Soccer.

The league’s commissioner, Don Garber, stated that they will work alongside the Bekcham-owned team to facilitate the negotiations and reach all of Messi’s demands.

You’re dealing with perhaps the most special player in the history of the game. So when there are rumors of him connected to Miami, that’s great,” Garber had told The Athletic.

It is thought Messi will be earning over $50 million per season at Inter Miami. There will likely be lucrative commercial contracts with Apple and Adidas with the former already penning a documentary with the World Cup winner for his feats in last year’s competitino.
