Could Luis Enrique replace Luciano Spalletti at Napoli?
Spalletti wants to leave Napoli after winning Serie A.
After winning the Serie A title, Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has announced that, in addition to retaining the club’s first league title in 33 years, he wants to go for the Champions League, and is looking for a head coach with an international profile. His idea was to continue with Luciano Spalletti, who has become a legend at the club, but the Italian tactician has other plans.
With Spalletti set to leave the club, De Laurentiis has begun to look for managerial options. The list of names that the Napoli chief is considering includes Klopp, Gasperini, Nagelsmann, Thiago Motta, and even the return of Rafa Benítez. Today, however, Corriere dello Sport reports that the idea of Luis Enrique taking over is also a possibility.
Luis Enrique wants new challenge
The former Spain boss speaks perfect Italian and knows Serie A well from his time at Roma. It would not be an easy move, but De Laurentiis was delighted with how Benítez worked at Napoli and he is a fan of Luis Enrique. It would be one of his typical coups, like the time when he appointed Carlo Ancelotti after Maurizio Sarri departed. The man from Gijón, who has already been in negotiations with Chelsea and is looking forward to a new challenge, would be an ideal appointment to continue developing the style of play implemented by Spalletti.
