Crisis beckons at Club América as Las Águilas stumble again
América again failed to secure all three points, as André Jardine’s men continued their unconvincing start to the Apertura 2025.

Club América continues to face mounting criticism after another underwhelming performance, this time in a 1-1 draw against Necaxa.
Despite experimenting with rotations and tactical tweaks, the team remains predictable in attack and alarmingly vulnerable on set pieces. Meanwhile, Necaxa, under Fernando Gago, continues to show signs of growth - making the most of its tools and emerging as a redemption project for the Argentine coach.

Here’s how Necaxa vs América played out:
- First half: high tempo, high drama
As expected, América took early control of the match, while Necaxa sat back, looking to strike on the counter. The result was an entertaining first half filled with chances, controversy and goals.
América broke the deadlock just past the 25-minute mark after brilliant individual play by Álvaro Fidalgo, who danced past defenders before setting up Alexis Gutiérrez. Gutiérrez kept the ball in play with great effort and delivered a low cross to Raúl “La Pantera” Zúñiga, who scored his first goal for Las Águilas.
But Necaxa stuck to their game plan and capitalized on América’s Achilles’ heel - defending corners. A poorly cleared set piece allowed Díber Cambindo to pounce on a rebound after a Kevin Álvarez save, leveling the score before halftime.
- Second half: momentum fizzles
The second half failed to match the intensity of the first. Both managers turned to their benches, with Necaxa seeing a slight improvement. América, however, failed to find a spark despite introducing big names like Rodrigo Aguirre, Alejandro Zendejas, Brian Rodríguez and the long-awaited return of Henry Martín.
André Jardine’s side maintained possession and territorial dominance but lacked precision in key moments. The final whistle blew with the score locked at 1-1, leaving América with five points and Necaxa close behind in four.
