Cristiano comes up short in Saudi as Al Ittihad win the league title
A 1-1 draw for Al Nassr against Al Ettifaq saw Cristiano’s side fall short as Al Ittihad beat Al Feiha to secure their their ninth league title.
Cristiano Ronaldo ends his first season with Al Nassr empty handed. The Portuguese striker joined the Riyadh based side in January as part of a high profile, big money move but ends up watching compatriot Nuno Espíritu Santo’s Al Ittihad win the league title after The Tigers scooped and the Super Cup earlier this year.
Al Nassr lost out to the Jeddah based club in the Super Cup while Al Wehda delivered a shock in eliminating CR7′s side in the Saudi Cup. With just one league game to go in the season, it’s been an underwhelming season for Al Nassr despite Cristiano bagging 14 goals in 19 games.
CR7 subbed
With five minutes of Saturday’s game away to Ettifaq, interim Al Nassr boss Dinko Jeličić decided that it was time to sub Cristiano and despite Talisca hitting the crossbar with a free kick late on with a goal keeping the title race alive, Al Ittihad winning 0-3 away to Al Feiha sees the side from Jeddah claim another Saudi Pro League title. Al Nassr continue the hunt for a new man to oversee the 2023/24 season and Cristiano will have to wait for his second season to secure Saudi silverware.
