Age is nothing more than a number for Cristiano Ronaldo as the Madeira born striker hit the headlines again as part of Portugal’s comprehensive win over Poland in Porto as the Al Nassr forward led the home side in the UEFA Nations League clash to consolidate their lead at the top of the Group A table.

A few days Ronaldo himself was honest as he admitted that setting himself the goal of 1,000 goals was perhaps a bit hasty. “I can’t think long-term anymore. That’s it—living in the moment, enjoying it. I said publicly I wanted to reach 1,000 goals, and now people think that’s all I want. My aim now is to live in the moment, see what my legs can give me. If I hit 1,000, fantastic; if not, well... no one has scored more goals than me anyway,” he concluded.

As things stand the striker has reached 910 career goals to date, following his brace against Poland and his strikes have propelled an unbeaten Portugal into the next phase of the Nations League with four wins, one draw and zero losses.

Ronaldo, a striker with no expiry date

Cristiano has bagged 15 goals for club and country this season, making him the UEFA Nations League top scorer with five goals, tying Slovenia’s Benjamin Šeško and one ahead of Norway’s Erling Haaland.

The Al Nassr man has also surpassed Sergio Ramos as the player with the most wins in the history of international football; the Spaniard left the international scene with 131 and now the Portuguese has 132 and counting.

The next test for Cristiano and Portugal is a trip to Split to face Croatia next Monday, November 18 at the Poljud Stadium.
