Cristiano Ronaldo injury update delivers news U.S. and Mexico fans won’t want to hear
The former Real Madrid superstar is due to face Mexico and the USMNT with Portugal this month, but suffered an injury playing for Al Nassr.

Cristiano Ronaldo looks likely miss Portugal’s two upcoming international friendlies later this month, including high-profile games against Mexico and the United States in North America.
The update comes from Al Nassr head coach Jorge Jesus, who revealed that Ronaldo’s injury is more serious than initially believed ahead of the Saudi club’s game this Saturday against NEOM SC.
Injury more serious than expected
“After the tests, we saw that the injury Cristiano Ronaldo suffered was more serious than expected,” Jesus said during his pregame news conference.
The Portuguese superstar will now travel to Spain for specialized treatment.
“Cristiano will travel to Spain, just as other players have done when they needed treatment after injuries,” Jesus explained. “His injury requires treatment in Madrid with his personal therapist, and we hope he returns soon and helps the team.”
Treatment in Madrid
When Al Nassr first released its medical update, the club described Ronaldo’s absence as indefinite. Jesus has now suggested a clearer timeline, saying the recovery could take around four weeks.
If that estimate proves accurate, the 41-year-old forward would likely miss Portugal’s upcoming friendlies against Mexico and the USMNT team. One of those games is scheduled to be played in Atlanta, bringing Portugal and Ronaldo to American fans.
Hamstring injury suffered in late February
Cristiano Ronaldo suffered the injury during Al Nassr’s match against Al Fayha on February 28.
He has been sidelined ever since, and his rehabilitation is now expected to take place in Madrid, where he has previously undergone treatment during injury recoveries.
If Ronaldo does miss Portugal’s North American tour, it would be a disappointment for fans hoping to see one of soccer’s biggest global stars in person in the United States.
