Despite not winning any titles in his debut season in Saudi Arabian football, Cristiano Ronaldo, the all-time leading goal scorer in football, remains undeterred and is already envisioning what the upcoming season with Al Nassr will bring. His desire is to continue with the team, while rumours persist about him leaving, demonstrate his determination and optimism.

Ronaldo confident in Saudi success

“In all honesty, I had expected to win something this year, but things don’t always go as planned. Sometimes, it takes passion, perseverance, and persistence to achieve the best results. However, I firmly believe that we will make significant improvements next year. Over the past five or six months, our team has made great strides. Even within the league itself, all the teams have shown improvement,” the Real Madrid legend mentioned during an interview for the Saudi Professional League.

The league is already very good, but I believe there are many more opportunities for growth. It is a competitive league with talented Arab players. However, there is room for improvement in terms of infrastructure, including the speed of refereeing and the VAR system,” he added.

“I think there are other areas that require attention and improvement. Nevertheless, I am happy here, and I want to stay. In my opinion, if the Saudi league continues its current trajectory for the next five years, it has the potential to become one of the top five leagues in the world,” the man with the CR7 initials stated confidently. The current ‘big five’ are in England, Spain, Italy, Germany and Portugal.

When addressing the league’s growth and improvement, Ronaldo promoted others following his path, clearly not suggesting any type of sports-washing was going on.

“If great players and renowned names come here, whether they are young talents or experienced veterans, they will be warmly welcomed. Such additions will undoubtedly elevate the quality of the league.”

The Saudi League’s development could mirror what has transpired in Major League Soccer, where gradual investment has attracted more stars to participate in America. Could we be witnessing the beginning of a highly competitive Saudi League led by the all-time leading goal scorer?
