Cristiano Ronaldo’s career has taken a new turn after moving to Saudi Arabia and signing a multi-million dollar contract with Al Nassr that will make him the highest-paid player in the world.
According to the Portuguese newspaper Público, and also reported by L’Equipe in France, Jorge Mendes will no longer represent Ronaldo, after a lifetime together. It appears that their working relationship came to an end in November. The tension between the two grew after the striker fell out of favour with Manchester United, which ended his second spell at Old Trafford.
Mendes, who is considered one of the best agents in the world of football, and who also works with James Rodríguez, Ángel Di María, Bernardo Silva, among many others, ended his working career with the Portuguese forward before the World Cup.
The Mendes-Ronaldo relationship
Since Ronaldo’s early days with Sporting CP, the two had worked hand in hand. Together they landed big contracts for one of the best players of all time, including lucrative deals with Manchester United, Real Madrid and Juventus.
However, it was in Turin where the problems between the two began, according to the same Portuguese outlet. Ronaldo’s demands to find a team up to his expectations to play Champions League took him back to United.
New agent for Ronaldo
His agent is now his compatriot Ricardo Regufe, who was linked to the American sportswear brand Nike for several years, and was the one who accompanied the player on his move to Saudi Arabia.
