Almost 48 hours have passed since Real Madrid officially announced the signing of Kylian Mbappé. The news prompted reactions across the board on social media and continues to be a trending topic even now.

Among those who took to social media to voice an opinion was Cristiano Ronaldo, whose own move to the Bernabéu in the summer of 2009 draws many parallels with Kylian’s. Over the next decade, he went on to break a host of club records, becoming Madrid’s all time top goal scorer with 450 goals in all competitions.

The Al Nassr player’s reaction hit a new historical record on social media just over 48 hours after its publication. It is the most liked comment across all social media with a total of 4.1 million likes - one of the most liked posts in the history of Twitter/X, outstripping the 3.5 million thumbs up which Barack Obama’s tweet about the tragic helicopter accident which took the lives of Kobe and Gianna Bryant in January 2020.

Meanwhile Real Madrid’s official announcement of Kylian Mbappé's transfer became the second transfer announcement with the highest number of likes on the social media platform now called X ( formerly Twitter).

The club’s publication gained a total of 923,000 likes on the day of the announcement, falling short of reaching one million so-called hearts in X, positioning itself as the second publication that involves a signing in the history of the social media network with the highest number of likes.

The first place is occupied by the return of Cristiano Ronaldo to Manchester United, announcement by the Red Devils that at the time reached 1.8 million likes on the day of the announcement in 2021.
