Cruz Azul fans buzzing as Juan Brunetta emerges as a surprise transfer option
La Máquina is already considering adding the talented Argentine midfielder, although it must first resolve the foreign player quota.
Cruz Azul may be staring at one of the most explosive transfer-storylines of the summer. Juan Brunetta, one of Liga MX’s most dominant playmakers in recent seasons, has been offered to La Máquina, and his name alone has already sparked excitement among the fanbase.
According to journalist César Luis Merlo, who shared the update in a video on X, the Argentine midfielder’s agent approached Cruz Azul’s front office to explore the possibility of a deal.
But there’s one major obstacle keeping this move from gaining real traction: Cruz Azul currently has no available foreign-player slots.
A signing that would electrify La Noria
Brunetta has cemented himself as one of the most influential attacking midfielders in Mexican soccer. His creativity, vision, and ability to deliver in clutch moments have made him one of the league’s most valuable assets — with a current market value of about $9.7 million.
The idea of seeing him in Cruz Azul blue has gained momentum, especially now that his camp has floated his name as a potential reinforcement for the reigning Liga MX champions.
The roadblock: no foreign-player spots
Even with genuine interest from Cruz Azul, the reality is simple: the club must free up a foreign slot before making any formal move.
Multiple reports indicate this has become the main barrier to any negotiation. Unless a foreign player leaves the roster, Cruz Azul cannot submit an official offer to Tigres.
Here are the current non–Mexico–trained players on the roster:
- Kevin Mier — Colombia
- Willer Ditta — Colombia
- Gonzalo Piovi — Argentina
- Rodolfo Rotondi — Argentina
- Agustín Palavecino — Argentina
- José Paradela — Argentina
- Luka Romero — Argentina
- Gabriel Fernández — Uruguay
- Camilo Cándido — Uruguay
- Omar Campos — eligible for Mexico, also holds U.S. nationality
Fans are already dreaming
For now, Brunetta remains a Tigres player, and Cruz Azul has not submitted an official bid. Still, the mere possibility of his arrival has ignited the imagination of a fanbase fresh off a championship and eager for an even stronger squad.
The ball is now in the front office’s court. If Cruz Azul can open a roster spot, this summer could deliver one of the most headline‑grabbing moves in Liga MX.
