Cruz Azul left with glaring roster hole
After Gabriel Fernández sustained an injury in Cruz Azul’s win over Vancouver, La Máquina faces a center-forward shortage.

Cruz Azul’s CONCACAF Champions Cup win over Vancouver came at a heavy cost for the Liga MX club, as forward Gabriel Fernández went down injured just as the match was nearing its end. With ‘El Toro’ crocked, La Máquina now finds itself without a true center forward.
Following the loan of Greek striker Giorgos Giakoumakis to PAOK and the departure of Ángel Sepúlveda, Los Cementeros are left with academy product Mateo Levy as their only natural attacker. Because of the shortage at the position, the front office has been active this winter transfer window - but so far, without success.

Cruz Azul chasing signings
One player who came close to joining Cruz Azul was Brazilian striker João Pedro, currently with Atlético San Luis. In recent days, both clubs had opened negotiations, but according to journalist César Luis Merlo, the deal for the South American has stalled.
The same source revealed that the arrival of Nigerian forward Christian Ebere from Uruguayans Club Nacional is essentially a done deal, with the player set to sign a three-year contract. It is worth noting that the transfer has not yet been made official, but the announcement is expected in the coming hours from both Nacional and Cruz Azul.
