Cruz Azul’s Juárez home comforts

Since joining Liga MX, FC Juárez has consistently struggled when visiting Mexico City - especially against Cruz Azul. The Bravos have never managed to beat La Máquina on the road, whether the match was held at Estadio Banorte, Estadio Ciudad de los Deportes, or Estadio Olímpico Universitario.

Cruz control on home turf

Cruz Azul’s ongoing stadium saga has forced the club into a nomadic existence. First, they left the iconic Estadio Azteca due to renovations ahead of the World Cup. Then came a stint at Ciudad de los Deportes, which was cut short following issues with local authorities. That led to yet another move - this time to Ciudad Universitaria.

But regardless of the venue, the story remains the same: Juárez has yet to make a dent when visiting Cruz Azul. The most lopsided result came two tournaments ago, when La Máquina cruised to a 4-0 victory. In fact, Cruz Azul has racked up eight home wins against Juárez since the Bravos entered the top flight.

Juárez has only managed two wins over Cruz Azul, both coming at home in the Estadio Olímpico Benito Juárez - once during the Apertura 2021 and again in the Clausura 2025. Outside of those rare victories, their best results have been draws, underscoring their inability to assert dominance when playing in the capital.

This Week 9 matchup carries significant weight for the border club. Juárez currently sits in the play-in zone, but the math still favors a potential direct qualification to the playoffs. With the tournament heating up, the Bravos need to start collecting full three-point hauls to avoid slipping in the overall standings.
