Cuauhtémoc Blanco, better than Hugo Sánchez and ‘Chicharito’ for Mexico
The former international and current Governor of Morelos was asked about where he sees himself among Mexico’s historic players.
Out of all of the historic players to have represented Mexico over the years, Cuauhtémoc Blanco stands among the best. He is remembered, among other things, for his performances at three World Cup finals - 1998, 2002 and 2010. The 50-year-old, who is now the Governor of Morelos, was asked where he thinks he figures in relation to the country’s legendary figures like Hugo Sánchez and Javier Hernández and didn’t hesitate to reply. “What do you think? I think I was better than them. That’s what I say, but much better than them”, he said.
“They might have played for a number of big European clubs - it’s not what I say, it’s what a lot of other people say. I don’t compare myself with ‘Chicharito’ or with Hugo, we all made our own story. People ask and I tell them that I got Mexico to two World Cups, we almost didn’t qualify, but we managed it with the help from my team mates. Everyone says that I was better than them”, he declared.
