Cuauhtémoc Blanco pulls no punches: “Chicharito should retire”
The Club America legend spoke about the Chivas striker who has barely played a game in the 2025 Liga MX Apertura.

Next Saturday, September 13, Mexico will be divided, as another edition of the Liga MX Superclásico pits Club América against Guadalajara. Just a few days before the match between the two most popular teams in the country, Cuauhtémoc Blanco has added a touch of added heat to the game.

In an interview with David Faitelson for TUDN, the former Club America player spoke about Chivas striker Javier Hernández and invited him to retire from the field. “I say he should already call it a day and throw his boots away. I think it’s difficult for everyone to retire, because in the end you miss the locker room, being with your friends, anecdotes, jokes, but there comes a time when you say that’s it. I think Chicharito, with all due respect, should hang up his boots; it’s a decision he’s going to make,” he commented.

“He performed well with teams in Europe, but you also have to know how to retire. When they first brought him to Chivas, I was on vacation in Puerto Vallarta and we were watching América vs Guadalajara and the Chivas fans themselves were saying not to play Chicharito anymore,” he explained.

Opinion on Maximin
The Mexican legend also spoke about Frenchman Allan Saint Maximin, who recently arrived in Mexican soccer and already has bagged two goals. “The other day they asked me, but I really haven’t seen him, but they told me he’s a fast player. They told me they played well against Altas,” he said.

“I think that maybe it’s something normal, the players’ performance dropped a little but I’ve always said, there are great players at América, right now we’ll see with this reinforcement which is what was needed, to give it some movement, about two or three changes to América because I think they were already complete, full, satisfied with the three-time championship. We have to give credit to Toluca for taking the championship from them, I honestly thought América was going to win it but Toluca played very well, that must be recognized.” he commented.
Finally, Blanco admitted that this is a truly historic year for América, especially for becoming the only three-time champion in short tournaments. “Yes, of course. It’s not easy to win three championships, the truth is, it’s not easy, and that’s very difficult. Right now, neither Cruz Azul nor Chivas have been able to win the championship; it’s not easy,” he concluded.
