Damián Rivera to choose between Costa Rica, Guatemala and the USA
The American midfielder plays for the New England Revolution II and is eligible to play for the United States, Guatemala and Costa Rica at the international level.
Damián Rivera is the latest young talent that will have to make a decision soon regarding his international career. Currently he plays as a midfielder for the New England Revolution II and the 19-year-old signed a homegrown contract with the first team in 2019.
Rivera made his professional debut with the Revolution’s second team on 7 August 2020 against Orlando City B in the USL League One. The midfielder scored his first goal in the 4-0 win over Richmond Kickers and finished his first season with two goals and an assist in 14 appearances.
Rivera to make a decision about his international career
Like many young players in Major League Soccer or USL are born in the United States, but are eligible to play for other countries because of their parents. This is the case of Damián Rivera who is eligible to play for the United States, Costa Rica or Guatemala at the international level.
Rivera is slowly starting to see more minutes with the Revolution this campaign and earning the trust of head coach Bruce Arena. The 19-year-old made his first start of the campaign against Inter Miami on Saturday and scored the opener for New England Revolution.
