Brazilian and FC Barcelona legend Dani Alves will have to remain in police custody after his latest appeal for bail was denied this Monday. A Barcelona court denied the petition despite the player’s lawyer’s best efforts to assure the judge that his client was not a fight risk. Alves was ready to surrender his passport and expressed his willingness to wear an ankle bracelet.

The court insisted that they fear the player has the means to flee the country if given bail. “We consider that no other precautionary measure can neutralize that risk with sufficient guarantees and his flight would prevent the holding of the trial that requires the presence of the individual being investigated.” The court stated in a press release.

How long has Dani Alves been in prison in Barcelona?

Alves was subjected to provisional detention in January, subsequent to being accused of committing a sexual assault against a woman at a nightclub located in Barcelona on the 30th of December.

The Brazilian has refuted any allegations of impropriety and has maintained that the intimate encounter with the female party was mutually agreed upon.

Following a thorough analysis of the preliminary investigation conducted by the authorities and the testimonies provided by Alves, the victim, and other witnesses, the judge ordered that he be in custody without the possibility of bail.
