Dani Alves has made over 400 appearances for Barcelona and is considered an authority on matters concerning the club. The full-back spoke candidly on such matters in an exclusive interview for Catalan daily Sport. Alves made some surprising comments about how he feels Barça should shore up their attack: “I wouldn’t break the bank to get Haaland. To be honest, I wouldn’t spend that amount of money on him. On Mbappé yes, but not on Haaland. I’m playing at being director of sport, eh? I would bank on Mbappé first. I think he is a more complete player in every department. If you are going to make a huge investment, you have to buy the best. If it was down to me, I would sign Mbappé”.

Barcelona, as Joan Laporta confirmed, are interested in signing the Norwegian striker and the president was recently spotted with the player’s agent. Mino Raiola and Haaland’s father have visited a number of Europe’s top clubs to hear what they are willing to offer. But for now, Alves feels that Barça would be better off focusing their attention on bringing Mbappé to Camp Nou.

He also believes that Barça need to strengthen the squad in other areas this summer: “In the modern game, you don’t have time to wait for young players to fully develop. Football demands the maximum from players right from the start. That said, I wouldn’t be interested in spending big money on certain players”.
