Dani Alves’ time at Barcelona comes to an end
The Catalan club contacted the Brazilian defender on Wednesday to inform him that they will not be renewing his contract.
Dani Alves will not renew or extend his contract with FC Barcelona, thus ending any speculation that the club were studying the possibility of the Brazilian defender continuing for another year. On Wednesday, head coach, Xavi Hernandez contacted the veteran defender to inform him of the decision. The main arguments were that he would have very few minutes to prepare for the World Cup in Qatar as he would face too much competition in the squad on the right wing. Xavi thanked Alves for his professionalism and effort in the six months he has been at Barcelona.
Obviously, the renewal of Sergi Roberto, the continuity of Sergiño Dest and the possible arrival of César Azpilicueta leave the right back position with enough candidates for the 2022/23 season and playing time for Alves would have been minimal with the player looking to secure a place in the Brazil squad for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
The player now has the challenge of finding a new club that will guarantee him playing time so as to be in the best physical shape for the World Cup.
His second spell at Barcelona lasted six months and ends without the 39-year-old securing any silverware this time round despite him having already secured a record 42 with the Catalan club and Brazil.
