Dani Alves: “I would like Mexicans to value their culture and their soccer”

The Brazilian international has made 10 appearances in Liga MX with Pumas UNAM and he has provided four assists.

Dani Alves signed with Pumas UNAM this summer after his second stint with FC Barcelona, but he has yet to make an big impact in Liga MX. The 39-year-old has provided four assists in 10 appearances, but Pumas have only recorded one win, five draws and four draws with the Brazilian in the side.

The Brazilian international has not performed as expected and he has been heavily criticized for his performances with Pumas. Alves recently sat down with former Mexico international legend Hugo Sánchez and talked about his experience in Liga MX since arriving during the summer transfer window.

Dani Alves opinion about Liga MX

“I would like Mexicans to value their culture and their soccer. Let the world criticize them but not the Mexican people. Mexico is an incredible country and for me it is an opportunity to continue my legacy and now I am in love with this place more than ever,” said Dani Alves during the show ‘Hugo Sánchez Presenta.’

I had the opportunity to play against Liga MX clubs and the Mexico national team. They always play very well and I was keen to play here. When my contract ended with Sao Paulo I had a lot of offers to come to Liga MX and I always want to play where soccer is simple,” he added.

Pumas UNAM have three games left in their regular season and they need as many points as possible to secure a spot in the playoffs this tournament. They will return to action on 18 September to host Cruz Azul and five days later they will go on the road to play against Puebla. Pumas will end the regular season against Juárez and will hope to secure a spot in the wildcard top 12 placings.
