REAL MADRID

Dani Ceballos waiting on Real Madrid

Real Madrid’s summer signings could push Ceballos out the Bernabéu door.

Dani Ceballos wants to sign a new deal with Real Madrid. The midfielder is not demanding first-team football, far from it, but he does consider that having a responsible role at the club is key to staying. He is getting more minutes and has become the first choice off the bench for the engine room. That excites him; the problem is that this summer, everything can change.

Bellingham the priority

Madrid want to sign Jude Bellingham: an operation of €100 million, €120 million at most. The feelings around Bellingham are positive, as a few days ago the player himself said “yes” to Madrid. All that remains is to convince Borussia Dortmund, a club Madrid have an excellent relationship with. But in the event that everything falls apart, Plan B would be Celta Vigo star Gabri Veiga.

Midfield options for Real Madrid

Luka Modric and Toni Kroos are nearing new deals at the Bernabéu, so there will be tough competition for the two midfield places. In addition to Modric and Kroos, Fede Valverde, Bellingham/Veiga, Eduardo Camavinga and Ceballos could all be competing for starting roles ahead of Aurélien Tchouaméni next season.

A lot of talent, a lot of competition; and all in a European Championship year. Ceballos, after more than two years away from the Spain setup, has returned to the La Roja squad under new boss Luis De La Fuente. He is very much liked by the coach and dreams of being part of the big event in Germany. To do so, he needs game time.

On 30 June, unless a decision is made to reverse it, he will be released by Madrid. The next few weeks will be key; further talks will be held with Carlo Ancelotti, the club and his entourage to know what status he will have next season. Ceballos has played in 14 (five starts) of the last 15 games, and the one he missed was due to suspension.
