Darwin Núñez pulls out of Uruguay squad
The former Benfica striker will undergo treatment at Liverpool’s training base.
Uruguay have confirmed that Darwin Núñez has withdrawn from their squad ahead of friendlies with Japan and South Korea.
The Liverpool forward was taken off during the second half of their Champions League defeat to Real Madrid on Wednesday with reports in South America suggesting he has suffered a cut to his ankle.
The former Benfica striker will undergo treatment at Liverpool’s training base, and the Merseysiders have also confirmed his withdrawal from the Uruguay setup.
Liverpool have released the following statement:
“The Reds forward had been initially included in his nation’s friendly fixtures against Japan and South Korea.
“Núñez will now miss the games due to an injury, as confirmed by the Uruguayan Football Association, and will instead receive treatment at the AXA Training Centre.”
Club América forward Jonathan Rodríguez will replace the 23-year-old in the Uruguay squad.
