Deco set to replace Mateu Alemany as Barça director of football
Catalan radio network RAC-1 claim that the Brazilian is poised to replace Alemany with the former player close to Alejandro Echevarría, a key player in any possible Messi return to Camp Nou.
Barcelona based RAC-1 this Wednesday claim that Anderson Luís de Souza (Deco) is highly tipped to replace Mateu Alemany as Barça’s director of football.
Deco has been a long time collaborator with FC Barcelona and has an extensive list of contacts in Brazil and Portugal. The 45-year-old was influential in the signing of Aubameyang and is Raphinha’s main representative.
Deco played under Frank Rijkaard at Camp Nou for four seasons and has maintained a strong relationship with Joan Laporta over the years. The departure of chief Latin American scout Andre Cury saw Deco become Barça’s new talent specialist in Brazil and in Portugal.
Deco also recently worked for the Gabon Football Federation and his contacts with Laporta and former brother-in-law, Alejandro Echevarría were instrumental to him securing the position.
Echevarría also has close links to Leo Messi and Laporta has been working with him as a mediator for months to redo his ties with the Argentine and convince him to come to back to Camp Nou.
