After the news broke that Diego Cocca would no longer be leading the Mexico national team, the central figure in this story was interviewed by David Medrano of TV Azteca to share his perspective on the matter.

Cocca wanted time and patience

“This morning, Ivar Sisniega approached me to explain that the decision had been made for us to no longer serve as the coaching staff of the national team,” Cocca said. “When faced with such decisions, there is not much one can do.

“We had discussions with the players and explained the situation to them. I also wanted to make it public so that people would know what happened. However, the truth is that I am saddened by this turn of events. As I have consistently expressed, we had a strong desire to be part of the team. Unfortunately, they did not grant us the necessary time and patience.”

The Argentine declared that the relationship between the coaching staff and the rest of the players had been improving and everyone had a duty to do things well, but the lack of patience ended up denying him any chance.

“There was a lot of commitment from everyone to move this forward. For me this starts with the coaching staff, the players and the fact that the leadership agrees with us to give us the time and patience, but it didn’t happen.”
