Diego Cocca assumed the position of technical director for the Mexican national team with the aim of having a four-year process that will take him to the World Cup in 2026, one that will be jointly hosted by Mexico along with the United States and Canada. The decision for who to select is now upon him.

Who is Cocca picking for Mexico?

As World Cup hosts, there will be no qualifying rounds for Mexico, so tournaments like the Nations League and the Gold Cup will serve as preparation for El Tri. According to the often reliable Rubén Rodríguez at , this would be Cocca’s first call.

Goalkeepers: Ochoa, Acevedo and a surprise

Defenders: Montes, Sánchez, Vásquez, Arteaga, Reyes, Gallardo, Álvarez, Guzmán and Sepúlveda.

Midfielders: Herrera, Edson, Guti, Chávez, González, Beltrán, Orbelín and Sánchez.

Forwards: Alvarado, Lozano, Jiménez, Giménez, Martin and De La Rosa.

As you can see, there is one player yet to be revealed, which will be revealed later on Thursday at the official announcement.

In addition to the official Concacaf tournaments, the federation is also preparing a series of friendly matches with opponents that could serve as a good barometer for El Tri, but details of these have not yet been confirmed. Mexican soccer is being restructured so that the next World Cup does not face the disappointment of Qatar.
