Does Piqué suggest he might return as president of Barça?

The footballer closes his farewell video looking towards the executive box with the words: “Sooner or later, I’ll be back...”.

Update:
Does Piqué suggest he might return as president of Barça?

Gerard Piqué is one of those footballers who does nothing for the sake of it. The Barcelona footballer invited us to reflect on his career in the retirement announcement he posted online. To close the emotional goodbye, Piqué stood on the Camp Nou turf looking towards the stands where he uttered the words “sooner or later, I’ll be back...”.

The centre-back has made clear on numerous occasions his intention to one day become the president of Barcelona. He is already the owner and president of Andorra, a club that has reached professional football status under his stewardship, but his true aspiration is to take charge of the club he has supported since he was a young boy: “I am very culé and I would like to help to the club I love. That can be done, if I think I can contribute things, by being very prepared to take charge. It’s something I’ve always wanted.”

Despite these comments, the Catalan has always left some form of doubt surrounding these intentions: “There are days when I see myself as president of Barça and others when I don’t. You have to have a great love for the club. It’s a great sacrifice, you have be able to guarantee 150 million euros... But there’s no point in being president if you don’t love the club”.

Piqué, a culé from birth who has gone on to have an illustrious career, has indicated the way in which the team would improve under his leadership: “I would modernise the club. I would change a lot of things. I would remove any toxicity and tell anyone who feels singled out to leave.” Many have considered Piqué the president-in-waiting after reaching an agreement with Rakuten over the sponsorship of Fútbol Club Barcelona.
