Doubts over Messi and Luis Suárez travelling with Inter Miami to El Salvador

Tata Martino’s first test of a gruelling pre-season commences with the Herons facing the El Salvador national side next Friday at the Cuscatlán stadium.

There is less than a week to go before Inter Miami participate in their first preseason game ahead of the 2024 MLS season. The Herons with Lionel Messi and now Luis Suárez in their ranks are set to travel to El Salvador to face the national side in the capital.

The game is scheduled for the Cuscatlán Stadium and the 2024 season will be the first that Tata Martino starts a campaign in his position as Inter Miami manager. Friday’s opponents too are in a stage of transition with new coach David Dóniga entrusted to take the Central American side to the 2026 World Cup.

One of the big unknowns ahead of the game is the presence of Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez in San Salvador after Martino stressed that he will try to rotate his squad as much as possible ahead of a demanding pre-season that takes in Japan, Saudi Arabia and Hong Kong and hinted that the players’ participation will depend on their physical condition.

Despite Tata Martino’s comments at MLS Media Day, there is still hope for fans in Central America according to Argentine journalist Gastón Edul who maintains that both Messi and Luis Suárez will travel with Inter Miami next week to San Salvador.

However, it is important to highlight that this does not automatically that both former Barcelona players will play in the friendly as this will be Tata’s final decision and the fitness levels of both players will be a contributing factor

Messi’s possible double trip before El Salvador

The Argentine looks set to cross the Atlantic again early next week with FIFA’s The Best Awards set to be staged in London on Monday.

Messi’s week would then be completed with another flight to El Salvador for the friendly against La Selecta, which which undoubtedly mean that his playing be limited.
