This weekend the New England Patriots return to the Super Bowl for the first time in the ‘post-Brady’ era. The new-look Pats will be led by young quarterback Drake Maye as they seek to add a seventh Vince Lombardi Trophy.

As part of the week’s activities leading up to Super Bowl LX, Maye appeared in front of reporters at a media event. Beyond discussing his expectations for the Seattle Seahwks game, Maye took the opportunity to express his passion for soccer.

Maye wears the No. 10 jersey with New England, sharing the iconic number with some of the greatest soccer players of all time. He said: “I’m a big fan of Lionel Messi, Neymar, Mbappé, who else wears it? Pelé. A lot of soccer greats. I mean it’s just a number, but it’s a pretty great number.”

Maye also spoke about his excitement that the U.S. will co-host another World Cup, revealing that he plans to attend some matches at this summer’s tournament. He said: “It’s incredible that the World Cup is coming to the United States. There will be some games I can attend. I still remember the [2022 World Cup final] where Messi won it against France, it was a great game, what a great sport.”

Maye has also made a prediction for this summer’s World Cup, predicting a back-to-back champion for the first time since the great Brazil team of Pelé won in 1958 and 1962. Maye said: “Messi is playing for Argentina, so I think Argentina can win the World Cup. I would obviously like the United States to win it, I have to support the United States.”
