Dua Lipa: ‘I will not be performing in Qatar’
Pop chanteuse Dua Lipa is currently on tour in Australia and dismissed speculation that she would be performing at the World Cup opening ceremony.
Pop queen Dua Lipa is currently in Australia as part of her ‘Future Nostalgia’ tour and amid growing speculation that the 27-year-old singer was set to perform at the opening ceremony at the 2022 World Cup next Sunday, she took to Instagram to dispel the rumours.
Qatar denial
Via an Instagram story, the London born singer ruled out the possibility of performing in Doha next weekend and availed of the post to criticise the Gulf nation for its policy on the LGBTQ community with homosexuality being illegal in Qatar.
“I will not be performing & nor have I ever been involved in any negotiation to perform. I will be cheering England on from afar & I look forward to visiting Qatar when it has fulfilled all the human rights pledges it made when it won the right to host”
Qatar’s record on human rights and draconian laws on homosexuality has has led for calls for teams, fans, brands and officials to boycott the tournament which kicks off on 20 November and runs through to 18 December.
