EA Sports and the Premier League reach an agreement of almost £500 million

Electronic Arts has reached an agreement with the Premier League to continue using its license in EA Sports FC after losing the FIFA name.

Electronic Arts/EA Sports has started preparations for the first year that its famous football game is no longer called FIFA. Instead, it will be named EA Sports FC. And the company has made a gargantuan move, reaching an agreement of £488 million with the English Premier League to continue using its name and logos. Here is everything that is known about the deal:

As reported by Sky News on February 10, the 20 Premier League teams held a meeting in which they discussed a six-year deal with EA Sports, valued at £488 million. A senior official at one of the clubs commented that the deal would earn them “more than £80m a year” and would see EA continue to be the main advertiser for the Premier League, in exchange for exclusive use of the license.

This new agreement is worth more than double the present deal between the two parties, according to one of the Sky News sources, reflecting the reality that the Premier League is currently the most profitable football league in the world.

Goodbye FIFA, hello EA Sports FC

2023 is set to be a very important year for EA Sports as it will be the first in which they will stop using the FIFA brand. Electronic Arts and the football association have cut their ties after almost thirty years of sponsorship and collaboration. As of 2023, EA’s FIFA is to be called EA Sports FC. There will be no FIFA 24. Or, at least, not one developed by EA Sports.

A huge negotiation demand

FIFA asked to renegotiate the agreement they had with Electronic Arts, asking for $1 billion to renew the license, to which the video game developer refused, meaning they will stop using the name. Another big loss derived from this breakup is that EA Sports FC will not be able to use the official license of the World Cup, being FIFA 23 the last game with content of this type.
