Eagle set to fly: Club América star poised to join persistent suitor
Al-Rayyan is back in the hunt for Brian Rodríguez - and the indications are that this time he will leave América.

Brian Rodríguez’s time with Club América appears to be coming to an end. Qatari side Al-Rayyan has renewed its interest in the Uruguayan winger, and this time, the offer seems to have caught the attention of the Azulcrema front office. After several failed attempts, it looks like Rodríguez may finally be on his way out of Las Águilas, where he’s played since 2022.
Reports out of Uruguay suggest that Rodríguez is close to sealing a move to the Middle East. Specifically, Al-Rayyan of the Qatar Stars League is pushing hard to acquire the 25-year-old. Uruguayan journalist Rodrigo Vázquez claims the two clubs are on the verge of reaching an agreement.
Al-Rayyan back in for América star
This isn’t the first time Al-Rayyan has come knocking. Back in mid-July, the Qatari club reportedly offered $7 million for Rodríguez’s transfer - a bid that América ultimately rejected, a decision confirmed by the player’s agent.
But the situation has shifted. While the financial details of the new offer haven’t been disclosed, it appears to be enough to sway América’s decision-makers. With just one year left on Rodríguez’s contract, the club is open to selling. The imminent arrival of Allan Saint-Maximin also plays a role, as it would allow América to free up a valuable foreign player slot.

Will Rodríguez play against Portland?
Rodríguez is not expected to feature in América’s upcoming Leagues Cup clash against the Portland Timbers on Wednesday. The match is a must-win for André Jardine’s men, who are hoping for a miracle to advance past the group stage. According to Fox Sports journalist Carlos Rodrigo Hernández, the Uruguayan winger has already been ruled out of the squad due to the transfer negotiations.
Rodríguez’s departure could pave the way for a new signing. TUDN reports that América is eyeing Necaxa’s Agustín Palavecino as a potential replacement, pending the completion of Rodríguez’s move to Al-Rayyan.
