What happened to Ederson against Newcastle?

The Brazilian was forced off the field in just the eighth minute of Manchester City’s Premier League clash away to Newcastle United after a collision in one of his first involvements of the game, which came after a delayed offside flag.

During a frantic start at St James’ Park, Ederson came off worst after careering into teammate Kyle Walker and Newcastle’s Sean Longstaff, seemingly suffering an injury to his left knee. After receiving treatment on the field, the 30-year-old initially attempted to play on but soon slumped to the ground once more having almost gifted The Magpies a goal due to his reluctance to kick the ball with his left foot.

The former Benfica man immediately signalled to Guardiola and the City backroom staff that he wasn’t able to continue, with backup Stefan Ortega coming on in his place. The German has only made five Premier League appearances for the reigning Champions League holders signing joining from Bundesliga club Arminia Bielefeld in 2022 but could now be called upon for a run in the team.
