Emma Hayes confirmed as new USWNT head coach
The U.S. Soccer Federation has appointed Emma Hayes as the 10th full-time head coach with the 47-year-old moving from Chelsea FC to the international post.
Emma Hayes has been appointed as new USWNT head coach. The 47-year-old English coach leaves her long term position having been at Chelsea since 2012. Hayes was also Arsenal assistant coach from 2006-2008 and has experience in the US with a two year spell with NWSL side Chicago Red Stars in 2008.
In her time with the ‘Blues’, Hayes has won five Women’s Super League titles and six Women’s FA Cups.
“This is a huge honor to be given the opportunity to coach the most incredible team in world football history,” said Hayes. “The feelings and connection I have for this team and for this country run deep. I’ve dreamed about coaching the USA for a long time so to get this opportunity is a dream come true.”

Hayes to take over in April 2024
Hayes will finish the 2023-24 Women’s Super League season in England with Chelsea and then join the U.S. team officially two months prior to the start of the 2024 Olympics.
Interim head coach Twila Kilgore will continue in her role and then join Hayes’ staff full-time as an assistant coach.
When Hayes officially takes over as head coach, she will have four friendly games before the Olympics get underway at the end of July with two games planned in both June and July.
