Arsenal look tidy while Palace lack precision

Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta will surely be feeling encouraged by the performance of his charges on what turned out to be an extremely humid London night. The Gunners put on an organized display and went ahead courtesy of a headed goal by Gabriel Martinelli in the 20th minute.

Credit should be given to Palace for the gritty showing, but former Gunners star and current Palace head coach, Patrick Viera will want to ask questions of his forwards. Between Zaha and Eze there were a plethora of chances where cooler heads were needed.

Where Arsenal's second goal was concerned, some might say 'lucky.' Indeed, Saka's shot - or cross - would not have found the net if not for a very favorable deflection, ultimately the goal was judged to be an own goal courtesy of Palace's Marc Guéhi, but rest assured the whole play was the result of very decent work by the Gunners.

With that Arsenal will take the three points from a 2-0 win, while Palace and Viera will be left to figure out what needs attending to first.

That's all folks. Arsenal open their 2022-23 Premier League campagin with a 2-0 win over their London rivals Crystal Palace. Goals by Martinelli and Saka for the Gunners sealed the deal on what has to be considered a solid performance.

The referee is being liberal at this point. Three or four of occasions could have been whistled but the official is letting things go.

Ramsdale collects and Arsenal will restart from deep in their own half. The Gunners are playing around their own box as Palace continues to press extremely high.

Palace get a free kick on the left side corner of the box. A dangerous spot no doubt. Can they get something on this one? Eze to take.

Arsenal make progress and the ball falls to Odegaard but his shot is blocked and Arsenal have a corner. They waste it and Palace break.

Zaha gets involved but shows too much of the ball and is dispossessed on the left side of the field. Arsenal try to build but the middle of the field is packed now and they lose the ball again.

Who to watch

If you're wondering about who you should keep you'r eyes on, then rest assured where Crystal Palace is concerned, it's the usual suspect in Wilfred Zaha. The ex-Man Utd player has shown time and time again that he cant tussle with the best of him. Will he make Arsenal pay?

Where Arsenal is concerned, it goes without saying that right here right now the man of the moment is new boy, Gabriel Jesus. The former Manchester City player has kicked off his time with the Gunners in the best way possible, with goals. The Emirates faithful will be hoping his preseason form doesn't dry up now that the league is about to start.

What are we getting into with Crystal Palace vs Arsenal

To begin with, there's plenty of optimism at Selhurst Park. Crystal Palace has had a busy summer in terms of recruitment and they will of course be hoping that they can build on that having finished 12th in the league last season. Indeed, former Arsenal legend Patrick Viera - Palace's manager - will have to keep his allegiances in check if he hopes to guide his charges to victory against the Gunners.

If you're interested in trivia, the last time Palace finished in the top half of the table was the 2014-15 campaign and interestingly enough, they opened that season against Arsenal with a 2-1 loss. With that said, it was just last season that the Eagles claimed a 3-0 win against Arsenal, leaving the question as to whether or not they can do it again. Let's find out!
