England among Messi’s favorites to win World Cup
Lionel Messi revealed the national teams he views as the biggest threat standing in the way of him and Argentina winning the World Cup.
The only trophy missing for Argentina superstar Lionel Messi is a World Cup. In 2014, he reached the finals with Argentina, but lost in extra time to Germany. Since winning the Copa America in 2021, Argentina are undefeated in 35 games. As this could be Messi’s last game with the international team, they and he are even more determined to go all the way.
Messi knows it won’t be easy, and he revealed the three teams he thinks will be the toughest to go up against.
“Whenever we talk about candidates, we always talk about the same teams,” said Messi. “But if I have to pick one above the rest, I think Brazil, France, and England are a little bit above the rest. But a World Cup is always complicated, and anything can happen.”
Argentina open the World Cup in Group C against Saudi Arabia on Tuesday, November 22, followed by matches against Mexico and Poland.
