England and Spain clash in rematch of Euro 2024 final
Two of the strongest squads in international soccer will meet again in the UEFA Nations League.
The draw for the 2026/27 edition of the UEFA Nations League was made on Thursday, confirming the group stage fixtures for the international competition. The headline of the draw is that England have been pitted against Spain in a rematch of the 2024 European Championship final, won by Spain.
England returned to League A of the four-tier Nations League structure after securing promotion in the 2024/25 competition. England and Spain’s four-team group is completed by Croatia and the Czech Republic. Reigning champions Portugal have been drawn against Denmark, Norway and Wales.

The news of England’s Nations League group came on the same day that manager Thomas Tuchel extended his contract through to the 2028 European Championship. Speaking to the BBC, Tuchel said: “You need to forgive me if I am not fully focused on the Nations League... It seems like a difficult group. It’s Croatia again, Spain - we need to figure out after the World Cup how we approach this period.”
The UEFA Nations League is a bi-annual competition for international teams in Europe, played during the two-week FIFA international breaks throughout the year. The teams are divided into four ‘Leagues’ with four ‘Groups’ of four teams in each (aside from League D, which has two Groups). Here’s a look at Thursday’s draw in full...
