Is it finally coming home? England’s only previous World Cup triumph came in 1966 and they have not been back to the final since, despite boasting a procession of top-level players.
The weight of expectation this summer falls on Thomas Tuchel, who has a built his team around the glittering talents of Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham. Both players have to key to England’s progression but they were the stars of the show in Sunday’s win over Mexico, with a brace from Bellingham and a crucial penalty from Kane.

Who could England play in the quarter-final?
Norway advanced through the round of 16 with a statement victory over Brazil, thanks to a brace from Erling Haaland. Norway will now meet England in the quarter-finals.

Who could England play in the semi-final?
If England make it through, they will probably come up against another of the powerhouses from their side of the draw. In the semi-final England could face reigning champions Argentina or Colombia.

Who could England play in the World Cup final?
If England can make it to the World Cup final for the first time since 1966, they will take on whichever team emerges from the other side of the bracket. Spain and France will be the favorites to advance, but Morocco a will also be hoping to make a run to the final.
