English? Mexican league left red-faced over new signing’s nationality mix-up
Welshman Aaron Ramsey, who has joined Pumas ahead of the Apertura 2025 tournament, appears on the Liga MX website as English.

In a bold move during the Liga MX transfer window, Pumas have set out to make waves in the player market by bringing in high-profile reinforcements. Among the most eye-catching additions is Welsh midfielder Aaron Ramsey, a player as well-known for his on-field talent as for the bizarre superstition that a celebrity dies every time he scores.
Pumas’ English dragon?
But despite the fact that Ramsey has been a mainstay of the Welsh national team since 2008 - accruing 86 caps - Liga MX has officially listed the player as English. The league’s website has even placed England’s St. George’s Cross next to his profile photo, rather than the red dragon of Wales.
This oversight has quickly gone viral on social media, sparking fierce criticism from soccer fans. Despite the backlash, the error remains uncorrected.
¿Inglés? 🏴🤔

La Liga Mx lo hizo otra vez… 🤦♂️
Pumas secure major goalkeeping recruit
Meanwhile, Pumas have sought to remedy a pressing issue by lining up a major signing between the posts. With Alex Padilla returning to Spain and Pablo Lara sidelined by injury, head coach Efraín Juárez was forced to turn to academy prospects to kick off the Apertura 2025 campaign.
Recognizing the need for experience in goal, the club’s front office scoured the market for a seasoned shot-stopper. After several days of negotiations, Pumas have reached an agreement with Newell’s Old Boys to bring in none other than Keylor Navas.
The Costa Rican international, a world-class goalkeeper with a résumé that includes LaLiga and UEFA Champions League titles with Real Madrid, brings championship pedigree and a wealth of experience to a team aiming to compete at the highest level.
