Enzo Fernández’s future in London is shaping up to be the summer’s biggest drama. The Argentine midfielder’s continuity at Chelsea for the next season is anyone’s guess, with rumors intensifying as the Blues struggle through a severe results crisis. In that context, Real Madrid has emerged as one of the leading suitors.

For now, Enzo isn’t committing to anything. But he isn’t shutting the door either.

“Now there are a few months left in the season. Madrid? Honestly, nothing, zero talks. Right now we’re focused on Chelsea and the remaining matches. After the World Cup we’ll see,” he said upon arriving at Ezeiza Airport, before joining the Argentina squad.

A tense locker room at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea’s current reality offers little optimism. Reports from England suggest growing frustration within the locker room toward management, amplified after Maresca’s departure and the team’s poor results. Enzo has been one of the most vocal players in these discussions. It’s a perfect storm for unease, prompting several key players to weigh their options for next season.

Chelsea contract talks hit a roadblock

Enzo’s situation is unique. Following Chelsea’s Club World Cup victory last summer, the club began early contract renewal talks. Management considered him a cornerstone of the project, one of the few untouchables. But negotiations stalled and never gained traction.

With a contract running through June 2031, things could change. In recent weeks, Enzo signed with new agency The Elegant Game, led by Javier “Flaco” Pastore and Matías Toranzo. Since then, interest has poured in, including from PSG, though nothing concrete has materialized so far.

Madrid remains Enzo’s dream

But Enzo’s heart is still white. His dream is to play at the Bernabéu and become a legend in Madrid, a city he loves and visits whenever he can. For now, he’s focused on the present: finishing the season strong with Chelsea and arriving at the World Cup in peak form to defend Argentina’s Qatar crown. His Madrid dream is on pause… for now.
